NEWS CHANNEL 5 SHARES OUR MISSION AND STORY

For a foster child, being part of a loving home can mean the world, but even with all that love, there's some gaps those foster families struggle to fill.

Vanessa Morrison, a foster child herself, knows them all too well.

Morrison said. "We see a lot of youth of color growing (up in) homes with people who don't look like them, and therefore do not inherently know the specifics when it comes to their ethnic and culturally specific hair- and skin-care needs," Morrison said.

It's why Morrison and Brondalyn Coleman, another former foster child, established Cut it Forward.

"(We're) starting the conversation, getting the information and actually making change," Coleman said.

Morrison's and Coleman's organization gives foster parents and foster care professionals the tools they need to make a difference, whether it's collecting products to donate to foster children or workshop sessions.

"A lot of kids get bullied at school because of the way their hair is not being taken care of or not having what they need to take care of their skin," Morrison said.
